Make and Understand Trades
Hockey Legacy Manager trades can include players, draft picks, salary retention, and a third team. Build the offer on the Trade screen, review the visible messages and trade bar, then submit it. If the offer is rejected, adjust it for the other team’s needs, contract situation, and cap space.
Build and submit a trade
Section titled “Build and submit a trade”- Open Trade and select the other team.
- Add players or picks to each side of the offer.
- Review the trade bar and any messages shown under the offer.
- Select Trade to submit it.
The game checks whether every asset is available and eligible before processing the offer. A clear error message identifies restrictions such as a player being on waivers or a contract clause that prevents a trade to the selected team.
Read trade feedback
Section titled “Read trade feedback”The trade bar gives a visual comparison of the offer when trade value is enabled. Messages provide the actionable reason when an asset or offer cannot be processed.
An offer can still be declined when its assets do not fit the other team’s current needs or cap situation. Check the other team’s Needs and Surplus sections, then change the players, picks, or salary included in the offer.
Auto Complete asks the game to suggest additions to the current offer. Suggested assets are marked so you can review them before submitting. Find Trade searches for offers based on the selected team or asset; no result means the game did not find a matching offer at that time.
Use salary retention and a third team
Section titled “Use salary retention and a third team”When salary retention is enabled for the league, Retention lets a team keep part of a traded player’s salary. The retained amount continues to affect that team’s cap while the receiving team takes the remaining amount. Retention changes in 5% increments, up to 50% of the contract. A team can carry up to three retained contracts, and their combined retained salary cannot exceed 15% of the salary cap. The same contract can be retained a maximum of two times.
Add Team turns the offer into a three-team trade. Assign each player, pick, or retained contract to the team that should receive it. Preview summarizes the complete three-team offer before you submit it.
Manage the trade block
Section titled “Manage the trade block”The Block tab contains four lists:
- On the Block for players you want to move
- Untradeable for players you do not want included by automated trade tools
- Needs for positions you want to acquire
- Surplus for positions you are prepared to move
You can place up to three players on your trade block. Select Edit beside a list to change it. League Block shows the trade-block information for teams across the league.
If Auto trade block is enabled, the game updates trade-block information automatically. Turn it off when you want your manual selections to remain under your control.
Trade draft picks
Section titled “Trade draft picks”During the draft, select an upcoming pick and choose Trade or Find Trade. The draft guide explains the draft-day controls.
Review a trade tree
Section titled “Review a trade tree”Trade tree follows the players and picks from a recorded trade into later connected trades. Open it from a player’s career history or from trade history when the tree is available.
After a trade is accepted, revisit building your team to fill any open lineup positions. For an expiring contract, use the contract extension guide.
