Hockey Legacy Manager
Last updated: 13 August 2026 · Effective: 5 September 2026
1. Who we are and what this covers
Hockey Legacy Manager (“HLM”, “we”, “us”) is developed and published by Hockey Legacy Manager in Canada. We are the controller of the personal information described here.
This policy applies to every yearly edition of the HLM games on Android, iOS and PC (Steam), in both the free and paid versions, to hockeylegacymanager.com and our short links, and to our email newsletter. Our other sports titles Basketball, Football and Baseball Legacy Manager are covered as well.
2. Summary
| Your saves and rosters | Stay on your device. We never upload them, unless you choose to publish a roster to Community Rosters or send your save for debugging. |
| How the game is used | We collect anonymous usage and gameplay statistics to understand how HLM is played and what to improve. |
| Purchases | We record that a purchase happened, its amount, currency and platform. We never see or store your payment details. |
| Marketing | We record which link, campaign or ad brought you to the store. |
| Crashes | Diagnostic reports when the game crashes or freezes. |
| Ads | The free mobile version shows ads via Google AdMob. |
| Only if you subscribe, with confirmed opt-in. | |
| We do not | Sell your personal information, collect your name or address in-game, collect precise location, or read your contacts, photos or files outside the game. |
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information that stays on your device
Careers, save files, rosters, leagues, settings and any names you type in-game are stored on your device only. They are not transmitted to us and we cannot read them.
Save files may be included in a device or cloud backup made by Apple, Google or Steam under your account settings. Those backups are governed by those companies’ policies, not ours.
3.2 Usage and gameplay statistics
To understand how HLM is played, prioritise development and measure whether changes work, the game sends anonymous usage statistics to Google Firebase Analytics. These cover things like:
- how often and how long the game is opened, and which app version and settings are in use;
- general progress and activity within the game, such as how much is simulated and how far careers advance;
- which features and screens are used, including when an upgrade screen is shown;
- purchases, as described in 3.5.
These are summary measurements, not a record of what happens in your saves. We do not receive the contents of your save files.
We also receive standard analytics measurements alongside them: app version, device model, operating system version, language and country or region derived from IP address. Firebase processes the IP address to derive coarse location; it is not stored in our datasets.
Identifier used. This data is tied to a pseudonymous app-instance identifier generated on your device. It is not your name, email, phone number or account. It resets if you reinstall the game or clear its data, and it does not carry across editions.
3.3 Community Rosters
If you publish a roster to Community Rosters, the roster file, the author name you enter and an author identifier are uploaded to our database and become visible to other players in the game. Don’t use your real name or any personal detail as the author name if you’d rather it not be public. Browsing or downloading community rosters publishes nothing about you.
To have a published roster removed, contact us (10).
3.4 Marketing and attribution
We measure which marketing works, using the platforms’ own tools rather than a third-party tracking network. Depending on your platform this may include the campaign or referral parameters attached to the link you installed from, advertising click identifiers, and the aggregate campaign reports Apple, Google and Valve provide to developers. Apple’s and Valve’s reports are aggregate and do not identify individuals to us.
Our short links at play.hockeylegacymanager.com/… read your browser’s user-agent to route you to the correct store; the redirect stores nothing.
We may also ask you once, in-game, where you heard about HLM. Answering is optional and the answer is used only to attribute the install.
3.5 Purchases
Purchases are handled entirely by Apple, Google or Valve. We receive a confirmation and, from the store, the amount, currency, item and platform, which we record alongside the campaign that produced the sale.
We never receive, see or store your card number, bank details, billing address or store account credentials. Purchase tokens used to verify and restore your purchase are held in your device’s secure storage.
3.6 Crash and diagnostic data
When the app crashes, freezes or hits an error, Google Firebase Crashlytics collects a diagnostic report. It may include your IP address, device model and name, operating system and app version, the app’s configuration and state at the time, a stack trace, the time and date, and a Crashlytics installation identifier. We use it only to find and fix defects.
3.7 Advertising
The free mobile version shows advertising through Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may use your device’s advertising identifier and similar technologies to select and measure ads, including personalized ads where permitted. Buying the Pro upgrade removes ads. The Steam version has no ads.
On iOS we present Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt; if you decline, the app does not access the device advertising identifier for cross-app tracking.
We also advertise off-platform through Google Ads, Reddit Ads and retargeting campaigns. Those networks may show HLM ads to people who visited our website or store pages, using their own cookies and identifiers under their own policies (8).
3.8 Website
hockeylegacymanager.com uses cookies and similar storage to operate the site, measure traffic and — where you have consented via the banner, if one is shown in your region — for advertising measurement.
3.9 Newsletter
If you subscribe we collect your email address and the signup source. Signup uses double opt-in, every message carries a one-click unsubscribe, and we send roughly monthly. We do not sell, rent or share the list. It is hosted by Kit.
4. What we do not collect
- Your name, postal address or phone number, unless you volunteer it in a message to us.
- Precise or GPS location. We derive country or region from IP address, nothing finer.
- Your contacts, photos, microphone, camera, calendar, or files outside the game’s own storage.
- The contents of your save files.
- Payment card or banking details.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising beyond the ad-network behaviour described in §3.7.
5. Why we use it, and our legal basis
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR/UK GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Providing the game and your purchases | Contract |
| Fixing crashes and defects | Legitimate interests — keeping the game working |
| Understanding how HLM is played, and improving it | Legitimate interests — product improvement, using pseudonymous data |
| Measuring which marketing works | Legitimate interests; consent where required for device identifiers |
| Publishing aggregate community statistics (§7) | Legitimate interests |
| Showing ads in the free version | Consent where required; otherwise legitimate interests for non-personalized ads |
| Sending the newsletter | Consent (double opt-in) |
| Answering your messages | Legitimate interests / Contract |
6. Who we share it with
We do not sell your information. We share it only with service providers acting on our behalf:
| Provider | Purpose | Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google — Firebase and Google Cloud | Analytics, crash reporting, community rosters, configuration, storage | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Google — Play Services | Store services and install attribution | policies.google.com/privacy |
| Google — AdMob and Google Ads | Advertising in the free version; acquisition campaigns | support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543 |
| Apple | App Store distribution, purchases, campaign reporting | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Valve (Steam) | PC distribution, purchases, campaign reporting | store.steampowered.com/privacy_agreement |
| Cloudflare | Website and link delivery | cloudflare.com/privacypolicy |
| Advertising | reddit.com/policies/privacy-policy | |
Kit | Newsletter delivery | https://kit.com/privacy |
We may also disclose information where required by law, to enforce our terms, or in connection with a sale or transfer of the business.
International transfers. We are based in Canada and our providers are primarily in the United States. For users in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, transfers rely on the providers’ Standard Contractual Clauses and equivalent safeguards.
7. Aggregate community statistics
We occasionally publish community statistics drawn from the usage data in 3.2 — for example, how many seasons players collectively simulated in a year, or the most popular starting team.
These are always aggregate. We never identify a player, never attribute a figure to a person or account, and never publish anything that could single you out.
8. Your choices and rights
- Ads — buy the Pro upgrade to remove ads; or on Android, Settings → Privacy → Ads to reset or delete your advertising ID and opt out of ad personalization; on iOS, Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and decline our tracking prompt.
- Usage data — uninstalling the game stops all collection; clearing the app’s data resets the pseudonymous identifier.
- The in-game question about where you heard of us — optional; dismissing it sends nothing.
- Newsletter — unsubscribe link in every email.
- Community rosters — don’t publish, or ask us to remove a published roster.
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information; to object to or restrict processing; to withdraw consent; and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. This includes rights under PIPEDA and Quebec’s Law 25 in Canada, the GDPR/UK GDPR in Europe, and the CCPA/CPRA in California.
Email [email protected] to exercise them; we respond within 30 days. Because our usage data is pseudonymous and not linked to any account, we may need the app-instance identifier from the game in order to locate anything — ask and we’ll explain where to find it.
EEA and UK users may complain to their local supervisory authority. Canadian users may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or to the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
Person responsible for the protection of personal information: [[PRIVACY OFFICER NAME/TITLE]], [email protected].
9. How long we keep it
Analytics data is retained for up to 14 months at the individual-event level, and indefinitely in aggregate, pseudonymous form for year-over-year comparison. Crash reports are kept for roughly 90 days. Purchase and attribution records are kept for up to 3 years for revenue reporting. Published community rosters remain until you or we remove them. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe, plus a suppression record so we don’t email you again. Support correspondence is kept for up to 2 years.
10. Contact
Questions, requests or roster takedowns:
11. Children’s privacy
HLM is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it. In the EEA the applicable age may be up to 16 depending on the country.
12. Security
We use commercially reasonable measures to protect your information: encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS) for everything the game sends, platform secure storage for purchase tokens, and access controls on our Firebase and Cloud projects. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Links to other sites
HLM and our website link to third-party sites — stores, creators’ videos, our subreddit. We don’t operate them and aren’t responsible for their content or privacy practices.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email before they take effect, and the “Last updated” date above always reflects the current version. Continuing to use HLM after a change means you accept the updated policy.
