Hire, Assign, and Develop Your Staff

Hockey Legacy Manager staff are divided into directors, coaches, scouts, and medical staff. Open Staff to compare their ratings and contracts, hire replacements, assign scouts, and manage specialties. Player-development staff can also run training programs for players in your organization.

The Staff screen shows your staff salary spending and four groups:

  • Directors, including staff responsible for departments such as player development
  • Coaches, with ratings for offense, defense, goaltending, power play, penalty kill, and development
  • Scouts, with separate ratings for each scouting region
  • Medical Staff, with prevention and recovery ratings

Each row identifies the staff member’s job and contract. Select a staff member to view their profile, offer an extension when available, promote them to an available job, or fire them.

The Staff screen groups directors, coaches, scouts, and medical staff in one place.

Select Hire Staff to open the available staff list. Choose a candidate, select the job you want them to fill, and review the requested salary and contract length before sending the offer. The game reports whether the offer was accepted or declined.

An expiring staff member can be extended from their profile. The Staff screen can also show an expiring-contract warning with AutoSign. Staff contracts and player contracts are separate; use the player contract extension guide for player deals.

When comparing candidates, check the ratings connected to the job instead of relying only on the overall rating. For example, a scout’s rating changes by region, while a coach has separate ratings for each coaching area.

A staff specialty provides the effect written in its description when it is active and applies to the staff member’s current job. Open Speciality Tree to view available specialties and their current ranks. Active Specialities shows which ones are currently selected for your staff.

Use the Speciality Tree to review staff specialties and choose which available effects are active.

Select a scout and choose Assign prospects to pick a region and undrafted prospects. Auto Assign above the scout list assigns the scouting staff for you. Scouting never applies to drafted or signed players.

The scouting guide explains regional ratings, prospect limits, scouting tiers, motivation, and Povr. An undrafted prospect’s potential label is never displayed.

Player-development staff can run training programs for players in your organization. Their job determines how many players they can train at the same time:

Staff job Training slots
Head player development 3
Head Coach 2
Coach 1

Other staff jobs do not provide training slots. The training guide explains how to choose a training focus and assign a staff program.

Career settings can let staff assign player training and training focuses automatically. These settings are separate, so you can automate one while choosing the other yourself.

Training is one part of long-term rating changes. Use development and regression for progression timing, development history, and career-wide development settings.
